VISION SCREENING
The Chiang Mai International Rotary Club (CMIRC) School Vision Screening Project screens 3rd and 5th-graders for vision problems at the 11 Chiang Mai municipal schools and with the Rotary Club of Chiang Mai-Wattana at the Wat Suan Dok School. We provide glasses free of charge for the children who need them since most come from very poor families.
CMIRC members and volunteers pre-screen the children for distance vision acuity and near vision acuity before an optician examines those identified with problems and writes prescriptions. Based on previous experience, approximately 10% of the children we screen require glasses to improve their vision. We visit every participating school on an annual basis, so the students who received glasses the previous year can be re-examined and receive updated glasses if needed. All services and prescriptions are provided free of charge thanks to a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Spokane 21 in the United States.
