Spreading Comfort and Hope: CMIRC Donates 180 Teddy Bears To Sick Children

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, patients found themselves trapped for months on end at the B.K. Kee Patient House. It was during this challenging time that the CMIRC Teddy Trekkers Initiative was born, providing much-needed support, comfort, and companionship to those in need.

In Rotary Year 2022-2023, the Chiang Mai International Rotary Club (CMIRC) has sent over 180 teddies to various hospitals, including BCMF Mae Sot Clinic, Omkoi Hospital, and the Nakornping Hospital in Mae Rim.

The Power of Teddy Bears

Teddy Trekkers are "trauma bears" that typically refer to teddy bears or stuffed animals providing comfort and support to individuals who have experienced trauma, such as children who have been through an experience like hospitalization, abuse, or a natural disaster.

These bears can be used in various settings, such as hospitals, therapy sessions, and shelters, and are often given to children to hold and cuddle to help them feel safe and calm. Some trauma bears may also have features like pockets for keeping comforting items in, like photos or small toys.

The use of trauma bears is based on the concept of "therapeutic touch" and the idea that physical touch can have a calming effect on the body and mind. By providing a soft and comforting object like a teddy bear, individuals who have experienced trauma can feel a sense of security and comfort, which can help to reduce anxiety and promote healing.

Teddies play an essential role in the lives of individuals from all walks of life, relying on the generosity of donations to find new homes. Teddies become reliable friends and companions, providing someone to trust and confide in. With their innate ability to listen without judgment, teddies create a sense of love and belonging during times of need.

Looking Ahead: Goals For RY 2023-2024

CMIRC has set an ambitious target for the upcoming year, aiming to dispatch 400 teddy bears to the Chiang Mai community in 2023-2024. The project requires the funding of 80,000.00 baht. Every donation, whether financial or actual teddies, is greatly appreciated in helping warm the hearts of those in need and bringing smiles to their faces.
