At the end of October, we had an extraordinary meeting with District Governor (DG) Apisak Jompong and Assistant District Governor (ADG) Ayako. After a meeting with the board and a buffet dinner, we learned more about our DG’s background, and he spoke to us about Rotary International’s and our District’s aspirations, as well as how we can contribute to achieving these goals.
This meeting was special as we were joined by several visitors: four members from the Payap University Rotaract Club, an exchange student preparing to go abroad next year, visiting Rotarians from Virginia, USA, and a passport member returning from the Netherlands. A big thank you to all our members who helped make the evening so enjoyable.
November’s theme in the Rotary calendar is The Rotary Foundation. The Foundation helps Rotary members advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, enhancing the environment, and alleviating poverty. In 2023-24, the Rotary Foundation issued grants totaling over $100 million through:
Our club is currently overseeing a Water and Sanitation Global Grant valued at $330,000. Last month, the board approved contributing $1,000 from our District Dedicated Funds towards a Global Grant for a Transported Incubator for Mae Tuen Hospital in Chiang Mai. The Rotary Foundation will also contribute to this grant.
We’ve recently received additional requests to contribute to Global Grants in northern Thailand. The Rotary Foundation website highlights that:
For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio.
$50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness.
$500 can launch an anti-bullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.
