Maciej Witek is a Peace Fellow at the International Christian University in Tokyo. Originally from Tarnów, Poland, he holds a B.A. in Cultural Studies from the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw and an M.A. in International Relations from Tokyo International University in Kawagoe, Japan. Before starting the fellowship, Maciej had already spent four years in Japan, where he promoted intercultural exchange, diversity, and human rights through roles as a teaching assistant, high school teacher, and global education project leader.
In 2021, Maciej fulfilled a long-term dream by volunteering as an interpreter for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, assisting athletes and international media during press conferences, interviews, and medal ceremonies. Achieving this goal, which once seemed out of reach, inspired him to return to Poland to support his local community.
Back in Poland, Maciej worked with the NGO Foundation Dla Dobra Dzieci, aiding children and foster families, including Ukrainian refugee families arriving in 2022. He also founded Global Society, an educational project focused on fostering intercultural exchange. Additionally, Maciej writes for Mediators Beyond Borders International and is a former diplomatic trainee with the Polish Embassy and the European Union Delegation to Japan. These experiences led him to join the Global Peacebuilding Association of Japan and Kyoto Peacebuilding Center, where he continues to promote academic exchange and dialogue among scholars in Japan and worldwide.
