Chiang Mai International Rotary Club (CMIRC) - Kru Payu Children’s Water Safety and Drowning Prevention Program (CWSDPP)
Our Children’s Water Safety and Drowning Prevention Program (CWSDPP) is moving fast this year. The CMIRC CWSDPP Warm Heart team in Phrao has already completed all 13 planned classes! Also, the CMIRC-Kru Payu-Bronco Kids team in Chiang Mai is making real progress by completing 13 of the scheduled 22 15-hour swim classes this Rotary Year. We had double duty this year since we decided to teach our 4th-graders as usual, as well as the current 5th-graders who missed the class last year due to COVID-19 school closures.
This year, we are continuing our Wat Suan Dok School 4th-grade program with the help of the Rotary Club Chiang Mai Wattana. This program is currently underway.
By year-end, we will have taught almost 800 children survival swim and water safety skills here in Chiang Mai Province! We continue to meet our goal set eight years ago. Every 4th-grader at every municipal elementary school in Chiang Mai will have the opportunity to take our CMIRC survival swim and water safety course.
Here’s a look at the start of one of our classes in our indoor pool at Bronco Kids Sport Club:
And that’s not all. Our program at the Banya Migrant Learning Centre in Phuket Province has completed its CMIRC-sponsored swim course for 55 migrant children there. Thanks to our sponsor Bob Ashley for his support of this program. Thanks to the Rotary Club of Patong Beach for being our local partner there!
Finally, we want to take this opportunity to recognize the support of our partners, sponsors and donors, so here is a list of these generous organizations.

Special thanks also to individual donors Richard Murray and an anonymous donor, and for the continued support from Ian Bushell. If you wish to help, please contact Project Champion John Schorr at watersafety@cmirotary.org for more information.
